The 28-year-old hit Amy in a head-on collision after swerving onto the wrong side of the road while driving in foggy conditions on November 13, 2022.

Paramedics rushed Amy to hospital, but she tragically died the following day.

Kelk was jailed for eight years and three months after pleading guilty to killing Amy.

Judge Simon Hirst told Lincoln Crown Court that Kelk had “callously left Amy dying on the road”.

“You found Amy and you heard her murmur,” he said.

“What you didn’t do was stay with Amy. What you didn’t do was ring 999 to seek assistance.

“What you did do was everything you could to save your own skin.”

After the crash, Kelk fled to a nearby farm and called his girlfriend to ask her to pick him up.

She then took him to another location and from there he fled to Peterborough.

Kelk was then arrested after running from cops on foot.

Amy’s mum Amanda read out a statement to the court.

She said: “She had her whole life ahead of her and didn’t deserve it to be cut short like this.”

The court heard the defendant had 22 previous convictions for 52 offences, including other convictions for driving with excess alcohol and while banned.

Kelk was jailed after pleading guilty to six offences including causing death by dangerous driving.

He also admitted to causing death by driving while disqualified, failing to stop at the collision and failing to report, driving without insurance and possessing cannabis resin.

He will be banned from driving for eight and a half years.
