Huddersfield Town boss Warnock: We might be able to help Millwall’s promotion push

Huddersfield Town manager Neil Warnock reckons his side can pull off results anywhere after passing their Den examination.

Danny Ward’s second-half goal sent Millwall to a 1-0 defeat.

Former Crystal Palace boss Warnock took charge of Town last month on a deal until the end of the season.

“The lads gave absolutely everything,” said the 74-year-old. “About half a dozen I don’t think had ever worked so hard in their lives. Millwall are good at home at what they do and we restricted them to long-distance shots, which was really good – it quietened the crowd a bit.

“I’m really proud of them. The group have learned quickly. We shouldn’t have lost at West Brom, we should have beaten Norwich…so they have done really well. That’s the first time since I’ve been here that we scored first.

“When you come to Millwall, you can’t have a weakness. In the first half Josh just let the left-back (Murray Wallace) go once and it could’ve cost us the game. He put a great ball in and they put it wide. You need one lapse of concentration and you lose the game at this level. There weren’t many of them.

“I think we can help Gary now and his lot, Millwall, because we’ve got some teams around them, now, to play. We can give everybody a good game. If we can come here and quieten the crowd then you can go anywhere really.

“I apologised when I put him (Ward) on. I said to Waggy (Martyn Waghorn) today that he had the short straw – you’re up front. But he had to come on. In training he works really hard. I just fancied Danny or Jack Rudoni to score, Jack was unlucky – he had a couple of good efforts.

“(Jake) Cooper was very lucky to get away without a sending off, when I’ve seen it back. The ref might not have been in a great position. But the linesman has got to have seen it. Dear me.

“Josh (Koroma) is convinced it was (a penalty shout that did not get given in the first half). Ronnie (Jepson, assistant boss) said it might have been iffy.

“We still could’ve been better on the ball. When we intercepted things we gave it away easily. We could’ve caught them on the break two or three times if we’d been a little more precise.”
